Before he reached for the door handle, the thief turned back to her. “Here’s a piece of advice you probably don’t want to hear, especially from me. People aren’t always as bad as you think they are.”

“But they’re never as good as you want them to be,” she replied without hesitation.

“There’s more than a little truth to that.”

The thief got out of the car and began walking away. Seconds later, Serena followed, closing the distance between them. Despite their ‘understanding’, she couldn’t trust a thief. If he was caught, she couldn’t have him telling Felix where she went. “I’m sorry,” she whispered as she brought the butt of her gun down on the back of his head.
